What In The World Is Hyaluronic Acid?

There are so many ingredients required for a healthy skin and one of the most essential is Water.  It allows vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other chemicals to travel through the layers of your skin to perform functions such as collagen and elastin production for plump, smooth and supple skin.

Water is held in your skin by a naturally occurring and very intelligent hydrating molecule called Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid attaches itself to water in your skin and holds onto it in tight bundles forming a gel-like consistency. This gel surrounds and bathes your collagen and elastin keeping them smooth and pliable and also gives maintains the hydration levels in the outer layers of your skin, the epidermis, producing a juicy, plump, and youthful radiance.

As you age Hyaluronic Acid production starts to decrease causing the skin to lose its fullness, dewy radiance and pliability and causes your collagen and elastin to stiffen and loose its flexibility, resulting in sagging! The outer layer of your skin, the epidermis, starts to look crepey with numerous fine lines forming during facial expressions. Your skin surface starts to feel very tight, parched and looks dull and lacklustre in appearance. In this instance it is easy to mistake your skin for being ‘dry’ when in fact its dehydrated as a result of the water escaping from the skin because of decreasing levels of Hyaluronic Acid. This is the time to ramp up your skincare routine!

Cosmetic Chemists have created synthetic, clean and safe forms of Hyaluronic Acid to combat skin dehydration. When applied on the skin via a skincare product it binds to the water molecules in the layers of your skin holding that water firmly in place to keep your skin soft, supple and dewy. In fact, this wonder ingredient can hold up to 1000 x its own weight in moisture –

it’s the super-hero skin hydrator!

Hyaluronic Acid is required in a high percentages and must be good quality in order to deliver hydrating results in skincare products. Take a look at the ingredient list on your hydrating skin products and hopefully it one of the first 4 ingredients that list. The higher it is that list the greater the amount added to the product to achieve the result of a more hydrated, revitalised and fresh looking skin… and who doesn’t want that!
